Sustainability Week

The Sustainability Week is organized annually by the Student Parliament with GreenCampus and the Vice President for Digitalization, Innovation and Sustainabilit at the university.

The aim is to look at the topic of sustainability from a variety of perspectives and to keep it present on campus. The target group is primarily students of any study program, but the entire campus community and local residents are invited to participate. Lectures, workshops, discussions and guided tours provide insights into the university's research activities, solution strategies and the commitment of students.

The aim is to make this clear: Sustainability is not a one-dimensional topic with a golden path. Since 2023, the University's Sustainability Award has also been presented by the president as part of Sustainability Week.

The Sustainability Week 2025 will take place June, 02th until June, 05th 2025.

To this end, participants will get to know the iNaturalist app - a digital tool for recording and identifying species. After a brief introduction, we will demonstrate how to use the app directly in practice. If you would like to actively participate right away, you can download iNaturalist in advance and create a profile - but this is not a prerequisite for participation. 18:00 – 20:00 o’clock (Location: H17, NW II) Lecture by: Prof. Dr. Maren Urner, before the Awarding of the Sustainability Prize will take place !

Short description:
As humanity, we reached a critical point: in view of the Anthropocene and the associated challenges, will we succeed in fundamentally changing our actions in all areas of life in time, or not? To achieve our goals, we have to rethink and redesign food, work, housing and mobility. Only then can we succeed in making the necessary transformations on an individual scale and as society. Above all, we need decision-makers, doers and people in positions of responsibility who are curious, naive and forgiving towards themselves and their fellow human beings: change by design - not disaster. As part of the Sustainability Week at the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Dr. Maren Urner will give a keynote speech on the topic “Why sustainability begins in the mind”. Maren Urner is a neuroscientist, Professor of Sustainable Transformation (Münster University of Applied Sciences) and bestselling author.

Thursday, the 05.06.2025

15:00 - 17:00 o’clock (Location: Radbox) Alley Cat organized by “die Radbox”

Short description:
The concept originated from the bicycle courier scene: an Alleycat is essentially a scavenger hunt on bicycles through the city. At the beginning, all participants are given a “manifest” - a list of stops that must be completed in no particular order. There is a task to complete at each station in order to collect points. So, it's not only about speed, but more about local knowledge, skill and creativity. Registration is possible via the Radbox e-learning course. Non-university participants can enquire at radbox@uni-bayreuth.de
